Lead Exposure Elimination Project UK

In the UK, leaded petrol and paint were banned after they were proven to be extremely harmful to children’s health and the environment.

Yet 1 in 3 children globally still have dangerous levels of lead in their bloodstream.

Countries Without Lead Paint Regulation

Lead is an invisible toxin.

Children are exposed to lead through the paint on the walls of their homes and schools, the spices they eat and cosmetics used, irreversibly affecting cognitive development, undermining their potential, and causing cardiovascular disease, anaemia and kidney damage.

Lead paint is widespread.

A significant cause of lead exposure is lead paint, which remains unregulated in approximately 50% of countries worldwide. Young children are particularly vulnerable to lead exposure from flaking paint and contaminated dust.

Lead exposure is preventable.

Alternative lead-free ingredients for paint have existed for decades. Eliminating leaded petrol was both a British and global success story. Let’s do the same for paint.
